Senior Data / Backend Engineer

Engineering|New York City - Hybrid (3-4 days/week)|Full-Time

Job Summary

We are looking for a Senior Data / Backend Engineer to work as a member of our core development team as we scale to 1k+ integrated clients. You have experience constructing large scale data pipelines, orchestrating workflows for production and analytics, and using event-driven techniques for near real-time processing. You love working across systems, account for the ramifications of design choices, and identify efficiency improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evolve our engine to support new types of data ingress (e.g. third-party platforms, agentic protocols, etc)
  • Build, operate, and monitor data pipelines on this platform for cost and quality
  • Engage with clients for initial integration and support
  • Collaborating across domains — ML, frontend, etc — to ensure near real-time experiences

Requirements

Must-Haves

5+ years of data engineering experience in production environments of batch and streaming pipelines at scale (e.g. millions to billions of rows, high throughput)
3+ years of experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow)
2+ years of experience deploying microservice architecture using Kubernetes orchestration
Strong Python background and familiarity with Google Cloud Platform
Strong communication and engagement skills to work with non-technical people

Strong Differentiators

Expertise with Shopify and/or Commerce Cloud data platforms
Expertise within Google Cloud Platform, preference for experience with multiple cloud providers (e.g. AWS & Azure)
Familiarity with best practices on data governance
Familiarity with basic ML / AI concepts (i.e. embeddings, inference, etc)
Past experience mentoring and/or managing more junior engineers

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation

  • Base salary: $175,000–$225,000
  • Equity: provided as part of the offer, based on experience
